Howe Allen grew up in a rural Vermont town where he attended a four-room school house.  After graduating from Hanover High School, he attended the University of  Vermont where he earned a BA in Economics, but with minor concentrations in German,  Art History and Crime and Criminology.  He obtained his advanced degree from Florida Atlantic University with a MA in Economics.  While in Florida he taught middle school, but soon was recruited by a large insurance company in the capacity of operations trainer which allowed him to fulfill his energy and drive to teach, but in a different environment.  Eventually this path lead him back to New England and over the course of several years assumed the position of Director of Training for a Boston-based insurance company in the legal department.  Due to the declining health of his parents, the demanding schedule of a corporate job was no longer a good fit so he began a full-time career in real estate, a career which he pursued part-time since 1985.  After working for Sotheby’s in Boston, Howe opened Howe Allen Realty in 2009 and relocated the business’ headquarters to Fairhaven in 2013. Creating interesting events designed to be non-profit fundraisers led them to introduce the Annual Picnic on the Lawn which benefits the Fairhaven Historical Society.Tim Evans, Howe’s husband, is the former president of the Fairhaven Historical Society. Howe and Tim also produced the Fairhaven Short Film Festival which showcased short films curated by a friend of Howe’s from NYC and raised money for various local charities. Howe and his husband originally discovered the SouthCoast while searching for a vacation home close to the sea within a short drive from their home in Boston where they lived for 16 years. They found a vacation home on West Island in 2007 and relocated full-time to Fairhaven in 2010.  Both Howe and his husband enjoy the community they live in and involve themselves in various cultural, social and volunteer opportunities which they feel enrich their quality of life.   Howe is on the Board of Trustees for the Rotch, Jones, Duff House in New Bedford and has been on the Board of Trustees for the New Bedford Art Museum.  Howe and Tim share their home with two Jack Russell Terriers and enjoy travel when time permits.
